A blessed Monday, brothers and sisters! As we begin another week, today’s Gospel brings us to the very heart of our Christian faith: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son.” On this Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, we are reminded that the Cross, once a symbol of suffering and shame, became the greatest sign of God’s love. Jesus did not avoid the Cross. He embraced it out of love for us.
We all carry our own crosses. Some are visible, while others are quietly carried in our hearts: family problems, financial struggles, sickness, disappointments, worries about our children, work pressures, or prayers that seem unanswered. The Cross reminds us that suffering does not mean God has abandoned us. Jesus Himself entered into suffering, and because of Him, even our most difficult moments can become places where we encounter God’s grace.
As we begin this new week, perhaps we can look at our crosses differently. Instead of asking only, “Lord, why is this happening to me?” we can also pray, “Lord, help me carry this with You.” The Cross tells us that pain is not the end of the story. Beyond Good Friday is Easter Sunday. Whatever we may be carrying today, may we hold on to the hope that God loves us, walks with us, and can bring new life even from our most difficult crosses.
