Queenship of Blessed Virgin Mary

In Matthew 23:1-12, Jesus warns about people who know what is right and tell others what to do, but fail to live it themselves. It is easy to talk about kindness, fairness, humility, and service. The real test comes when we have to practice them, especially when no one is watching. Faith must be more than words. We have to walk the talk.

Jesus also challenges our obsession with titles, positions, and recognition. Before God, we are brothers and sisters with equal dignity, and we have one Father in heaven. Leadership should never be about feeling more important than others or expecting special treatment. Jesus gives us a completely different standard: “The greatest among you must be your servant.” Real authority is shown through fairness, humility, and service.

Today we also celebrate the Obligatory Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and Mary beautifully shows us what this kind of greatness looks like. We call her Queen, yet her life was never about power, privilege, or putting herself above others. She called herself the handmaid of the Lord, quietly said yes to God, served Elizabeth, stood faithfully beside Jesus, and allowed God’s will to guide her life.

Mary reminds us that in God’s Kingdom, being lifted up begins with becoming humble. “Whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” She is Queen not because she sought a throne, but because she completely gave herself to God. In a world where many want recognition, influence, and status, Mary quietly points us toward another way: serve first, remain humble, and let God decide where He wants to place us.
