In John 1:45-51, Philip finds Nathanael and tells him, “We have found the one about whom Moses wrote.” Nathanael was unsure and even skeptical, but Philip did not argue or force him. He simply invited him: “Come and see.” That simple invitation became the beginning of Nathanael’s encounter with Jesus.

This Gospel reminds us of what true friendship is really for. Friends are not only people who bring laughter, comfort, and good memories. They are not only the ones who listen when we are struggling or stand beside us during difficult times. A true friend also helps us become closer to God. Like Philip, we are called to bring the people we love to Jesus, not just through words, but through our example, kindness, and presence.

Sometimes we hear the expression, “Duh, iyahay tag luwas sa atong kalag.” While it may be said jokingly, our faith reminds us that we are not meant to walk alone. We are not competing for salvation. We are companions on the same journey toward God. The best friendships are those where we can help each other grow, pray for one another, and gently lead one another closer to Christ.

May we become like Philip, friends who do not only ask, “How can I make your life better?” but also, “How can I help you discover Jesus?” Because the greatest gift we can bring to a friend is not just our presence, but an invitation to meet the One who gives life its true meaning.
